My New Friend

After my run on Monday, my hips really started to bother me; to the point that it hurt to walk. So, I talked to a few people, and did some internet research on the most common running injuries. It turns out that the likely culprit for my pain is my IT bands. My awesome neighbor, Kristine, let me borrow her foam roller last night, and I think it might be helping. So I went out tonight and bought my own. Hopefully this little roller will be a good new friend and will help get me running again. (I haven’t run since Monday). I’ll keep ya’ll posted!

Have any other runners had problems with hip pain? Their IT bands? What did you do to treat it? Leave me a comment :-)

Good run here, bad run there, it happens!

So I decided today that I was going to try and run 6 miles again (very indecisively). About 2 miles in, I knew that wasn’t going to happen. Another bad day of running for Stacey. It’s ok, though. I ran/walked 4 miles, and got a good hill run, and some faster paced running the last 1/2-3/4 mile; so it wasn’t all for nothing. Plus, since I was in such a walking mood today, I decided to take Ali for a spin around the block after I got back from my “run”. I don’t take her on enough walks, so I have been trying to take her out more lately. Tomorrow will be another day, and I will have much better running days in the future. Reading about other people’s experiences on blogs such as “TwentySixandThenSome.com” and “Runner-in-progress.blogspot.com” has really motivated me to keep going, and to go for the 13.1. It has also made me want to blog more, which is fun for me :-) . Definitely check out the two blogs I mentioned above, they are great! Oh, and props to my friend Sue for busting out 9.2 miles this morning-you are an inspiration! Happy Sunday Evening!

Mesa Turkey Trot 11/24/11

I had a great time at the 42nd Annual Mesa Turkey Trot today! It was the longest run I have ever done (10K/6.2 miles). I’ll be honest and say that it wasn’t one of my best runs. You definitely can’t control when you have a great day and when you don’t; so I did the best I could, didn’t stop (although I had several moments when I wanted to), and finished in 1:00:48. That is about a 9:40 mile, which is the same pace as my 5K, which made me very happy despite it being a rough day. My friend, co-worker, and running coach Owen and his girlfriend Drea, and our friend and co-worker Devin all got our butts out of bed this morning bright and early for the Trot. Tom the Turkey (dressed in a head to toe turkey costume) ran the 45:00 10K, and anyone who was able to beat Tom got a certificate! Too cute! It was overall a very fun morning, and a great way to start off a wonderful Thanksgiving Day! Check out the pics:

That’s one lucky turkey! Did you run a Turkey Trot this year? Leave me a comment and tell me where it was and how it went!

I’m Training for the PF Changs Half-Marathon!

I am so excited that I am training to run in the PF Changs Rock’n'Roll Half-Marathon in January here in Phoenix! I have never been a long-distance runner; in fact, I used to HATE running! I had to run when I was on Purdue Dance Team for conditioning, but we only ran for 20 minute after practice. So why in the world am I training for a half-marathon, you ask? I know, I thought I was crrazy at first, too. I have been hiking like a mad woman since I started to hike this past March. When I got bored on the level parts of the trails, I started to run. The running got easier and easier, the more I did it.Then, I volunteered to give flu shots at the 2011 Phoenix Aids walk back in October. My colleague that did the flu shots with me was registered for the 5K, and I found myself wishing I was, too! As a result, I signed up for my first 5K, and started running more often. I completed my first race, the Women’s Running Magazine 5K, on November 6th in 30:00. Not a ridiculous time by any means, but not too bad, either. I really enjoyed the race, and am now addicted! My next race is the Mesa Turkey Trot 10K this Thursday. I am blessed enough to have some great friends joining me this time so I won’t be running alone :-) . I’ll definitely post some pics from the Turkey Trot in my next post!

I’m Back! I’ve Been a Busy Girl!

I haven’t had a lot of time for my blog lately. I have been preparing for the Phoenix Summit Challenge 2011, and the Women’s Running Magazine 5K race. Here are the pics from this weekend. Roll your mouse over the pic to see the captions. Enjoy!
