Training with Tater

I signed Ali and I up for the Walk Run Wag 5K9 1 mile walk on March 4th! So we have started training together Smile. We did 0.25 miles yesterday, and 0.5 miles today. I was so proud of my Pumpkin! She was super excited when I asked her if she wanted to go on a walk! She helped me find the door.

And we’re off!

Ali is fascinated by plants. I don’t know what it is, but she could sniff different things for hours while making it 0.05 miles down the road.

After having a little talk about the importance of “walking” while on a walk, we were on our way again.

She does better walking off her leash. She believes having a leash controlling her every move is SO for dogs, and not for her. Since she is human, you know?

“”Mommy, just in case you forgot, my treats are in here. Since you just drug me around the neighborhood and wouldn’t let me sniff plants and rocks, I think I deserve one!”

“I’ll even be polite until you tell me I can eat it!”

“I love you, Mommy! More walks, please! They make me happy!”

And tired! Off to happy puppy chasing squirrels dreamland Smile

Happy Trails!

How much can I cram into a Saturday?

Today was an awesome day! I woke up bright eyed and bushy tailed and all I wanted to do was lay around, drink my coffee and my Green Monster smoothie, and play on the computer. I knew I needed to get a good run in today, so after procrastinating for a little bit, I geared up and headed out the door for my “long run.” (3 miles….a girl’s gotta start somewhere, ok?) I actually planned on running only 2.5, and running more later; but it felt so good, I just kept going! I love running in ‘Tukee on Saturday morning! There are so many like-minded people getting their sweat on, and I always wonder what other people are training for. Everyone is so nice, too! I got waves and peace signs, and just happy hellos all around. Runners are for the most part happy people. That’s why I love them, and being one of them!

I forgot to post this in my post on Tuesday. This was me before my freezing cold run through Ahwatukee. LOVE my new Tough Girl skirt/pants from Skirt Sports/Sole Sports!
After my run, I went to my Saturday AM meeting and hung with my girls, then did a little bit more shopping. (I had a special moment at Lulu last night….I made my first purchase! Besides almost having a heart attack after I saw the total, it was an awesome experience!) I went to Ulta, and invested in a gel topcoat and a small UV light for my manicures. My manicures that I do on myself always start chipping within HOURS of doing them! I got so frusterated that I decided to invest in something a little more durable. I will do a review on the products after I have had a chance to put them to the test. I also went to Sports Authority and used my $10 off a $50 purchase coupon. I got a new hand-held water bottle, and two new Under Armour technical running shirts. Both were on sale, which makes me a happy girl! Here is a new outfit:

The top is one of ny new UA’s and the skirt is from Lululemon. So far I say Lulu may be insanely priced, but I would make the same purchase again. I am SO impressed with the quality and comfort or their stuff! I wore this outfit on my run #2 of today. I wanted to get another really easy run in since i missed yesterday’s run. I ran 2.25 miles at an average pace of 10:21, and it felt fantastic, again! Yay for running without knee pain!!
Then, I came home and took an ice bath.

Thank God they are so effective! It was torture just putting my feet in the cold water(no ice)!

Then, I made the best cookies ever!!!
Uploaded from the Photobucket Android App
Cowgirl Cookies!! These are as healthy as they can get. I subbed applesauce for most of the oil, and Splenda and a tad bit of Agave Nectar for the sugar. I also used less coconut, and more applesauce and almond milk than the recipe called for. It was WAY too dry with the amount of liquid the recipe called for. I also used one tbsp of Peanut oil instead of canola oil to go with the applesauce. I got the base recipe from The Baking Stone

How good do these look!?!? The are amazing, trust me. These are going to be my breakfast for the next week! Do you have any good recipes for “to go” breakfast or snacking items? Share it with me!

Valentine’s and Firefly Run

Happy Valentine’s Day all you wonderful people that take the time to read my ramblings! I hope you had a wonderful day, and ate enough chocolate to make you wanna run a gazillion miles tomorrow!

This week is the official start to my training for the Diva’s Half-Marathon on May 6th! I got in my first official training run today of 2 miles. I took my time, and didn’t try to kill myself like I did at the Skirt Chaser. I saw a shirt one time that said “I love running, when I’m not doing it.” That’s how I felt after the Skirt Chaser. Today, I actually felt like I loved running WHILE I was running! Running outside today made me realize how glad I am to not live in Indiana anymore. It was 50* today, and it was COLD!! I bundled up in my long pants + skirt (Skirt Sports) and my Nike long sleeved running shirt with thumb holes (LOVE me some thumb holes!) and headed out the door.
(That was Tuesday, it is now Thursday)

I survived my 12 hour day (4AM-4pm, after closing until 9pm last night and falling asleep somewhere between 11-11:30pm). I just had the best burrito, and now I am going to take a nap! One more thing I wanted to tell ya’ll is that I just registered for the FireFly Run that is here in Phoenix on April 14th. It looks like SO much fun! It is a nighttime 5K with cool glow in the dark stuff!

I’m hoping to take a nap for a couple of hours, and run later. If I don’t run tonight, I’m definitely running tomorrow and Sat. Hope everyone is having a great week!

Happy Trails!

Skirt Chaser 5K Race Review

The Skirt Sports Skirt Chaser 5K was today in Tempe. I met up with some of my friends Owen, Drea, and Kristine at Tempe Beach park this afternoon to get in on the fun. The way it works is the girls start, then the guys have to wait 3 minutes for their start and then try to catch the girls. Instead of a t-shirt, the girls get a running skirt! This year, they gave us a running skirt in the color “Purple Haze”, which is a medium lavender color. It was really cute! There were a ton of people there! I heard there were at least 2000 in attendance. 60% were girls and 40% were guys. There were guys in skirts, tutu’s, pink compression socks, even a hot dog and a bottle of ketchup! There were also plenty of shirts that said “Catch me!” and “Already caught!” to help out the guys at the afterparty ;-) . Here are a couple of pics from before the race:

Joe from Sole Sports sporting his manly running skirt (He’s awesome! He and Katie helped me pick out my shoes!)

My time ended up being 33:03. Now I just have to learn to run three miles again. Without stopping. Starting from scratch sucks! It’s definitely worth the pain and torture hard work, though!
Today was a lot of fun! There were all sorts of booths, including Sole Sports, OhYeah, 5 Hour Energy, Four Peaks Brewery, WalkRunWag 5K9, Kiss Me I’m Irish Run, and many more! Everyone we met was really cool, and were all just out to have a good time. I will definitely do it again next year, and would recommend it to everyone! Hope you had fun if you were there today! If you took any good pics, I’d love to see them!

Happy Trails!

11 Things Tag

I was tagged by Nicole of The Marvelous Misadventures of a Foodie to do the “11 Things” post. This is my first tag, so I am so excited! First, you list 11 random things about yourself, then you answer questions picked out by the person who tagged you.

11 Random Things About Me:

1. I haven’t had a drink of alcohol in 21 months.
2. If it didn’t make me fat, I would eat mac’n'cheese or chicken and dumplings for every meal!
3. I’m totally addicted to caffeine. You’ll rarely see me without a No-Carb (the blue one) Rockstar or a cup of black coffee in hand (especially in the morning!)
4. I am SO not a morning person! I wish I could make myself be…I will reset my alarm to get 10 more minutes of sleep, no joke. I have issues! Does anyone know how to work on becoming a morning person??
5. My biggest pet peeve is people chewing with their mouths open. I will leave the room if I can.
6. I am totally OCD at work, but not at home.
7. I played violin from 5th to 12th grade, and was concertmistress of my high school and county orchestra my senior year.
8. I was a collegiate dancer at Purdue University, and went to NDA Nationals twice!
9. I have been known to get up at 2am to shave my legs because once my legs get too prickly, I can’t sleep! Once I shave, I fall back asleep like a baby.
10. I have been with Walgreens for 13.5 years–I started working for the company at 16 as a pharmacy cashier.
11. I once accidentally ate a dog treat….it looked just like an Oreo, ok?? I told my sister she buys really crappy cheap cookies, lol!

11 Questions:

1. What is your favorite vacation of all time?
Germany/Italy/Spain in March of 2010-my husband and I visited my in-law’s, got married in Rome, and honeymooned in Spain. It was SO amazing!!
2. What is your favorite way to spend a Sunday?
Sleep until at least 10am, have coffee and a nice healthy breakfast, watch the Colts play football, get a run or hike in, and have relaxing “me” time.
3. What is the coolest thing you did in the month of January?
Went to dinner with my friend Violet at a new restaurant in Chandler, hung out at a Hooka bar and had lattes, then had a “Just Dance 3″ dance party at our house until 2 in the morning :-)
4. What is the first blog you ever read?
Makeup-It’s Judy Time; Running-TwentySixandThenSome
5. If you could pick a song to be your theme song (that played wherever you go) what would it be?
Sexy Girl by LMFAO (Party Rock Anthem almost tied with this one)
6. Crushed ice or cubed?
Crushed. Hands down.
7. Which Disney Princess do you identify with the most (if any)?
I don’t really identify with any of the princesses, but when I was little, I always wanted to be “Gadget” from Chip and Dale’s Rescue Rangers. She was a badass :-)
8. Do you prefer to plan things or be spontaneous?
Spontaneous. I actually hate planning things sometimes, because I change moods quickly, and sometimes really want to do something when I plan it, but then don’t feel like doing it at the time….I’d rather just decide at the last minute when I know I feel like doing something.
9. What is your favorite flower?
Purple roses and calla lillies
10. Do you ever listen to songs on repeat? If so, which was your most recent repeat song?
No. I get tired of hearing the same songs over and over again, like on all of the local radio stations. The one song I can say hasn’t really gotten old to me is Party Rock Anthem. I have no idea why, but I still like listening to it!

Up and running again!!

Thanks to my awesome physical therapist Lori, I was able to run nearly pain-free for the first time in SO long today!

So I looked totally cute in my running gear before I ran! How about now, lol:

Yeah, that’s me taking my first ever ice bath. Yes, it was freeeeeeezing!
Uploaded from the Photobucket Android App
I am trying to preserve my poor falling apart body in any way possible. So that means ice baths are going to be happening a lot, now. I think it helped a lot, because my knee feels better than it did right after I finished running. The run felt great! I finished my first mile in just under 9 minutes, which is really fast for me. I did slow it down a little after that, because I don’t quite have the stamina I had a couple of months ago. I am SO excited to start training for my next attempt at my first half marathon! I have officially registered for:

The Diva’s Half-Marathon in San Francisco is on May 6, 2012. Cameron and I are making a mini-vacation out of it. Neither of us have ever been to San Francisco, so we are really excited! My training program is from Fit Sugar. It starts off with very low mileage, and gradually increases. That is very important to me to prevent injury like what happened last time I trained for a half-marathon. My “official” training starts a week from tomorrow, after the Skirt Chaser. If you have never done a race before, or are single and want to meet some hotties, this is the perfect race for you! Wear a cute running skirt:

Run 3.1 miles, beat all of the boys, then get your party on at the afterparty! Hope to see you there!

Happy Trails!

It’s SO much more fun with a group (+5 dogs!)

I went on a nice long hike with my friends Donna and Bre, and some awesome new friends, (two of them being Gio and April) yesterday. Also along for the hike were their 5 dogs, Blondie, Nala, Lulubelle, Fozzy and Henry. All of the dogs except for Fozzy (he gets a little sensitive when bikers go by :-) ) were let off the leash and were so adorable as they ran ahead of us, and then waited for us until we caught up to them. They would even run ahead, then lay down for a second until we got there. The Christiansen Memorial Trail runs east-west from about 7th Ave to Tatum in central Phoenix. It is a mostly level trail and is very easy to hike. It would be a great trail for running! Here are some pics:
