Lazy Recovery Tuesday

I seriously slept in until waaaaay too late today. I’m not even going to tell you guys how late, because it’s ridiculous! I know when my body is telling me to take a break, and today, it definitely was. I had a long weekend of work, a decent run Sunday night, and a long day on Monday.

On my way home from work Monday, I was checking out FB at stop lights and saw that Ari did a blog post on a broccoli cheese soup with roasted corn that she made. (Drop by Ari’s Menu and wish her a happy birthday on Friday!) It has been cloudy, cool, and rainy around here, which is rare if you live in AZ. It only seemed appropriate to make a warm savory soup to enjoy on such a cold evening, so I did!

I also baked mahi from Costco to go with it. It turned out so amazingly good that I can’t wait to eat the leftovers for dinner tonight! Check out her recipe here.

So after I got up today, I took a bath and shaved my legs, (always makes this girl’s day better!) and threw some quinoa in the crockpot to have for the rest of the week. I was going to paint my nails, but I ran out of time again….

This is the color I will be using soon!

I love this color! It’s a Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure polish in Commander in Chic. It is a beautiful neutral taupe that is perfect for winter. The pics don’t do it justice. Ill post a better pic of my nails when they are done. My toes, as you probably remember from this post, have looked a little bit rugged lately and deserved some attention. I almost went to get a pedicure at a nail place, but can never justify going to get my nails done when I have this in my room:

My biggest problem is sitting still for enough time after they’re done to let them dry. Yeah, I need to learn to relax and quit trying to get so much stuff done at a time.

I also gave Ms. Tater Tot a bath today. She was a dirty pug.

Now she’s so fresh and so clean clean! She hates to love baths. She will slowly sneak out of the room when she hears the word. She ends up liking it though, especially when it’s over and she gets to play with the towel!

Tonight, I made Herb and Goat Cheese Stuffed Chicken Breast that I made a few months ago to go with the leftover soup from last night. I had some rosemary and sage left over from cooking last week to use instead of the poultry bouquet. I also sliced some sweet potatoes on my mandolin slicer and threw them in the oven to go on the side. It turned out SO good!!

Time for Fun Nails!!

I tried these once before, and didn’t put them on right. They started coming off right after I applied them….I obviously wasn’t doing it right, because other people had success with them!

They are Sally Hansen Salon Effects nail polish strips. I decided to give them another try this week, because I have seen them on other people, and they are so cool!

I have a really hard time keeping nail color on my nails for more than a day or two without them chipping. I’m not sure if I have an extra oily nail bed, or just really bad application skills. It could also be working with my hands all day at work that causes the chippage. I have noticed, though, that not only does my nail polish chip off, it also likes to peel off in sheets at the tips. The only way I can get polish to last maybe 3-4 days instead of 1-2 days is to really roughen them up with a course nail file before putting on my polish. Even a base coat doesn’t help.

Anyway, so I wanted to try these again, and they worked much better this time!

The trick is to prep your nails correctly, and use the correct side of the strip for your nail. Make sure to buff the tops of your nails with the white side of the included nail file like it says in the instructions. I used the course pink side for mine, because of my nail issues that I explained above. Also, make sure you push your cuticles back really well. You can use either side of each strip when applying to the nail. One side seems to be more tapered, and the other one more parallel. Choose the one that best fits the shape of your nail near the cuticle, and you will have better fit and coverage, and less of a gap between the strip and the edges of your nails. Hold the strip by the center when placing on the nail like it says in the instructions for better control. Lastly, stretch them a tiny bit as you apply them on the end of your nail. This ensures a smooth, even finish.

The only thing I want to try next time is adding a top coat right after I put them on. I didn’t have mine with me when I applied mine, so I just didn’t bother. The girls at Ali’s veterinarian’s office all use them, and say using a topcoat is a trick they have to make them stay on longer. When you pay $9.99 for a set, you want to make them last!

One last close up picture of them. I like the black and white since it goes with everything. They have seasonal and special edition ones that come out every once in awhile, as well. Keep an eye out for those on the special end stands and sections in stores like Walgreens, and by the cosmetics counter.

Have you ever used these? Have you had success with them? What is your favorite design?

Ole’ Caliente

Here is my latest and greatest nail color that I am sporting. It seemed like a fun summer color, and there’s no better time to sport a summer color than when it’s 114 degrees outside! Smile

This color is called “Ole’ Caliente” by Essie, from their summer 2012 collection, I believe. It borders on both coral and red. I’d call it a fire engine coral, if you will. I have had it on since Thursday, and it is now chipping around the tips of my nails. This is nothing unusual for me, though, since nail polish and my nails are not long-term relationship material. I am lucky to get two days of wear without chipping and peeling, even with amazing and expensive topcoats. Here’s one more picture for good measure:

What’s your flavor (or color should I say) of the week? Do you prefer to do your nails yourself or to get them done? How many toenails do you have? Me? Eight. That’s hot.  I had to ask for all you runners out there….lol!

Happy Trails!

Ladder Workouts will getcha!

Yesterday, Team Chances NYC did a ladder workout at track that definitely kicked my butt! A ladder workout looks like this:

1-1-2-1-3-1-4-4-4-1-3-1-2-1-1-1

One minute hard, one minute easy, two minutes hard, one minute easy, and so on. The 4 minute hard intervals were killer!!! My legs are still sore today! I had to run to the porta potty during the end of the 3 minute hard, and into the 1-2-1 section, so my splits look funny. I have also never reset my laps during a workout before, so that took some getting used to. Here are my splits from that workout:

At first, I slowly jogged the one minute rest periods. After the 2 minute hard interval, I was so winded that I walked them. Track workouts are so different, and even though I kind of want to keel over during some parts of them, I really do like them! My running friends say track workouts really help improve your speed a lot. I can’t wait until it cools down to really see how much I have improved!

I got my new nail polish in the mail today that I talked about in my last blog post! It’s called “Lady Like” by Essie. I LOVE it! I am wearing it right now. Here it is:

I feel like the flash tones down the “rosiness” of the color a little bit. Isn’t it pretty, though!? It’s such a natural color and it goes with almost anything!

This picture shows the true color better than the previous picture. I couldn’t find this color at my Walgreens. I think it might be an old color, or a seasonal one. I actually got mine on Amazon.com for less than I would’ve paid at Walgreens, even with shipping! It got here in like 3 days, too, so even better!

What is your favorite nail polish color? Or your favorite for the summer? What have you been doing this week for your workouts?

Happy Trails!

Essie’s “Demure Vix”

My friend Susan was wearing a beautiful color on her toes, so I asked her what it was. It was a color by Essie called “Lady Like.” I tried to find it at my Walgreens, but it looks like it was a limited edition color, or just a color that they didn’t carry anymore.

She is such a nice friend, and showed up at our run last week with a similar color that she had and gave it to me! How sweet is that!! I really like it, and am wearing it on my fingernails right now:

It is a nude color, slightly darker than the nail bed, with a slightly pink duo chrome. It is one of those colors, I think, that would go with anything. Definitely one to check out!

Essie’s Coat Azure with OPI Silver Shatter on Accent Nail

A beautiful color for summer that I got on clearance at Walgreens for 4 bucks! Can’t beat that!

My New Favorite Summer Pink

This is Gilda by Zoya. It is the most gorgeous, shimmery, bright, cool-toned pink I think I have ever seen! It is perfect for the summer. This picture honestly doesn’t do the color justice. I just got 7 new Zoya colors, and I will try to swatch as many colors on here that I can.

My New Nail Polish Rack!!

I got my new nail polish rack today from Amazon, and it is perfect! I definitely could use some more bottles of polish to fill it up, though  :-)

Score!!!

I FINALLY found a good makeup organizer that holds more than 6 lipsticks and 4 lipglosses! Also, a picture of my whole makeup station is soon to come. What does YOUR makeup station look like??

Another Awesome Color From Zoya!

I wasn’t too sure about this color when I first got it in the mail. After I put it on, though, I realized how beautiful it is! It is a purple with gold shimmer. It almost looks like a duochrome. It is great for spring and summer! Let me know if you have tried this color, and what you think of it!
