Like Heaven on Earth

From the time I was little (we're talking six years old or so), I have been a beach bum. My parents used to take me to Florida every summer for two weeks, and it would have the time of my life! I remember when our entire family would end up in New Smyrna Beach with our watermelon umbrella, Grandpa's auger, boogie boards, and the best tasting sandwiches in the world! For some reason the sandwiches always tasted better on the beach. No, seriously. I swear they really did!

Well, some things never change. I decided to swing by San Diego again on my way to LA for my surgery to enjoy some beach time before I'm laid up in bed for God knows how long. I am staying on Dog Beach again in Ocean Beach. I am in love with this place!! I rented a beach cruiser to get around since everything is so close and parking is kinda rough at night.

As far as tolerability of my injury goes, cruising around town on one of these is extremely different than riding for exercise. I'm doing just fine with it.

The first night, I sprawled my stuff out in the bathroom, got ready, and went to OB Noodle House.
It was amazing as always. Check out the Pho:
Did you guys know that Pho is pronounced "fuh"?? I did not until I read it on the menu. It still seems awkward to pronounce it that way. It's gluten free, too! At least theirs is at OBNH. I actually think I might go back there tonight for dinner.
The next morning, I went outside to check and see how the weather was, and look who I found! My neighbor and his pug, Bella! I got my daily dose of pug ;-).
Crazy morning hair pelfie with Ms. Bella.

Then, after I rented my bike, I headed over to Newbreak coffee shop to get some studying in. I haven't really talked much about what I'm studying for. I may talk more about it when it gets closer to the time. It's a big undertaking, and I'm honestly a little overwhelmed right now with it. I'll say this: it's giving me purpose while I'm out of work, and even if I fail, it'll make me a better pharmacist.

This place is so cool! Look at their wall of teas! I may have shown you guys this last time I was here, but I like it so much that here it is again!

After so long, I needed a change of scenery, so off to the beach I went! Now don't get the idea that I was sporting my bikini on my new two-person beach towel. It was actually really cold and windy!

Here I am in my long sleeved running shirt and capris. The sun came out for like 10 minutes, so I changed:

The sun went back behind the clouds, and the top went right back on! There were people surfing in wetsuits even in this weather! They are brave souls.

After some studying, I decided to meet some new four legged friends and their people. This is Lilo.

Then, I met Yoda, the pug puppy! How precious!!!

Then, I met this red-nosed pit bull pup. Isn't he adorable! I forget his name though........

Just in case you guys were wondering where OB is in relation to the rest of San Diego, here's a map:

Dog beach runs along the north part of OB where the pink is. There is a street here called Bacon St. Of course I had to take a picture :-).

My second night, I decided to bar/restaurant hop so I could check out some new places. The first place I went was called 3rd Corner. I had a roasted beet salad that also had dates, walnuts, and goat cheese on it. It was really good! The second place I went was Mothers, which is really like a dive bar with pool tables, shuffle board and good food. Being that is was Tuesday, of course they had Taco Tuesday specials. I got a carne asada taco which was very good!

Just in case you were wondering, bar hopping for me consists of these:

It's even better when a bar carries Rockstar. They are few and far between, though. Speaking of good drinks, check out what I came across:

If you know me well, you know that I don't drink much soda/coke, or whatever your native region calls such things. If I do, I drink diet-which is also bad for you, yet has no calories. But when I saw this Butterscotch Rootbeer, I tossed aside any care in the world that it had 180 calories in the bottle and indulged! I have a weakness for anything butterscotch. Red velvet and cookie dough aren't far behind, but butterscotch is where it's at!

Moving on, I hit two more bars-Lucy's and The Tilted Stick. Neither one had food I wanted, the crowds were thin, and they really weren't my style. I would've played pool, but no one was really playing. Still hungry, I went back to Mother's and got another taco! This time I got a shrimp one:

Holy mother of tacos, this was fantastic!! It wasn't really on the healthy side, but all things in moderation...plus, I'm on vacation!! There were some pretty cool people there, as well, so I enjoyed it the most out of any place I went.

The next day I went back to Newbreak, had lunch, and studied for about two to three more hours. Thank goodness for coffee!

After that, I went back to the beach to blog a little bit. While I was there, I met this sweet little pug named Bubba:

Bubba is 13, deaf, and almost blind. He was such a lover!! He snuggled up right next to me as soon as I said hello! Look how stinkin' cute he is!

To top it off, his mama was also a friend of Bill's. She had on a necklace that was a clear indication. It's so nice to meet "family" in random places!!

So that's my trip so far. I left OB this morning for OC. My surgery is one week from today, and I just can't believe it's so close!!!!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful week!! I miss my Ali and everyone so much!! I'll be reporting back with more trip shenanigans very soon!

Happy Trails!

Stacey
