Homemade FroYo Friday

I have been experimenting with my Vitamix and making healthier versions of FroYo out of frozen fruits, Greek yogurt, almond milk, and dark chocolate powder. I posted a recipe for a chocolate smoothie a month or so ago that I've been making to satiate my chocolate cravings. This is even better! It has evolved from experimentation with different ingredients and perfecting the previous recipe. I added more ice and used more frozen ingredients to make it more like an ice cream.

You can use any blender you want to make this, but I can only guarantee it will work with a Vitamix or a comparable blender with the stick that pushes down the ingredients into the blade while it's blending. I have to use it a lot to push down the frozen Greek yogurt and frozen banana.

Speaking of frozen Greek yogurt, I froze my own vanilla Greek yogurt in my freezer by using a cookie sheet, parchment paper, and a tiny misting of coconut oil cooking spray to prevent sticking.

They froze and came out as frozen chunks of Greek yogurt that are perfect for blending into FroYo!

When I posted this picture on Instagram a few nights ago, I had requests for the recipe from a few of you, so here it is!

Homemade Healthier Chocolate Banana FroYo

  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1/2-3/4 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
  • 1 chunk frozen Greek yogurt (1/2-3/4 cup unfrozen)
  • 1-2 tbsp Hershey's Special Dark Chocolate powder or any raw dark chocolate powder
  • 1/2 tbsp Nutella or Chocolate Hazelnut spread
  • 1/4 tea vanilla extract
  • 2 drops Stevia liquid
  • 1-1&1/2 cups of ice

Put it all in the blender, ice first, then blend until smooth.

You will have to do a lot of pushing of the ingredients onto the blade with the stick. (Don't do this with anything other than what comes with your blender please!!!! If all else fails, try a food processor!)

Pour into a bowl, and enjoy. You're welcome ;-).

Don't have a Vitamix? Yes it is expensive, but it's worth every penny. It's the best blender I've ever owned. Does it get on your nerves when there are still chunks in your smoothie? When the ingredients have too thick of a consistency and you have to either add more liquid or stop and stir it? These things don't happen with the Vitamix. I should get paid for my infomercial, but honestly, I love it that much that I want to share it with you. Don't buy a full priced one, though, get a refurbished model! Check this out and save yourself a couple hundred dollars. I think I have the 5200 model.

I'm going to keep experimenting and changing up the ingredients, and maybe I can start doing a Froyo Friday for you guys! Time to get creative ;-).

Happy Trails!

Stacey
