Boston Thoughts and a Detailed Update

I can't say it enough: I am SO SO SO proud of my teammates that ran Boston!! My coach Susan ran a 2:55:02, which made her come in 1st in her age group!!

She's going to help me get to Boston (hopefully someday when I can run again.) I'm qualifying for Boston you guys. I believe I can do it, I will train my heart out for it, then I'll become a BQ'er. Hands down, it's happening.

She also wrote a really inspiring blog post about why she chose to run the Boston Marathon again after 14 years. Click on her link above and it's the first post (as of today) on her blog. Check out some really great pics I stole from all of my teammates' Facebook pages on Monday!

Represent!! Go BTB!

Carrie PR'd and ran a sub-3 hr marathon (2:58:45), and Boston is NOT an easy course! If I wanted to PR, I wouldn't pick this race, and look at her nailing her time like a boss. Congratulations Carrie!!!

From the left we have Daradee, Kaylee, Carrie, Coach Susan, Cris, and a friend of theirs from Phoenix.

Daradee just qualified at the Big Cottonwood marathon this past fall, and I stalked her tracker while she ran it! I was so excited for her!! She kicked butt and ran a 3:52:21.

Kaylee ran Boston last year, and caused me to go into tears when I hear she crossed just 20 minutes before the bomb went off. Thank God she ended up ok and was able to come back this year and run it again. Kicking booty as usual, she pulled off a PR of 3:33:37. Damn girl!! Again, impressed with the PR's on this course!

Cris qualified for the 2013 race, and ended up waiting until this year due to injury. I'm with ya (literally) on that one. I'm so glad you had a healthy training cycle and are back to it! She ran a 3:40:53!

Kelly LeCours (3rd from the left in the first pic) is from Boston, and runs it every year. She finished with a 3:19:44. So impressive lady!! Someday I hope to be as fast as you :-).

And how 'bout this guy? Can it get any better than that?? So so proud that an American finally brought it home for the first time since 1983. I was 1. It'd been awhile guys, lol! I find it amusing that his marathon time is faster than my half marathon PR (2:08:45) lol! That just shows the magnitude of ridiculousness of these elite athletes. (I mean that positively!)

I couldn't help but notice her tat on her leg. I'm not sure what it says, but it's cool!

I want to get one of these for Ali when I'm healed and riding again! Come on guys, you know I would. I'm that girl ;-).

This was my weekend and first half of my week. I've been trying to soak in the beach as much as I can before I leave. I love studying on the beach! It makes tough material not so bad, and enjoyable material that much better! In fact, I finished the entire course from ACCP (started in December to give you an idea of the amount of material) and started my review process today. I'm on psych, which to me is really enjoyable because I find it very interesting and intriguing. I'm going to be ready for this exam!! I'm in the final stretch, and have to be more focused than ever from now until May 9th. It's going to be SO worth it!

I got some more powder and foundation from MAC in Mission Viejo today, and Phoebe the makeup artist did my makeup for me! We didn't do eyeshadow, just face and mascara. I love makeup!! So much fun!

Now, what you guys are probably all wondering about if you follow me on Facebook or Twitter. I went to my post-op appointment yesterday, and saw Heather the PA. She's fantastic, as well, btw. I told her that my left hip is doing wonderful, and that I've been off crutches since Friday. I also told her about how my right leg is still acting up. I lifted my knee to my chest like I do multiple times a day, and my hip popped like it always does. She heard it, and had me lie down on my back. She moved my leg around, had me bring it to my chest, and pushed it inwards where I felt pain. She then proceeded to tell me that I may have a problem in my actual hip joint that they were unable to see in the previous MRI's because they didn't use contrast. When she wrote out the order for my MR arthrogram (using contrast) she put "checking for labral tear." Awesome.

So I asked her what we needed to do if there was a torn labram or other hip joint-related issues. The answer? Yup-surgery number three. Can you guys believe this? I mean, it's just been a roller coaster ride physically and emotionally for me. I was expecting the two surgeries to take care of business, so to feel this way after 9 weeks post-op has just been so discouraging.

This honestly could be a really good thing, though. Obviously, there's still a problem on my right side that needs addressed. The popping/clocking that is going on in my hip along with the kind and location of the pain points strongly toward a labral tear. If this has been the underlying problem all along that we couldn't figure out, we can get to the bottom of it and fix it!! As I've said before, I'm willing to do whatever it takes to get back out there running again. I have had SO much envy watching runners in Tukee everyday doing what I love to do. It's been so friggin hard and I'm just ready to be normal again! So I'm staying positive and praying for the best. If I need a third surgery, hopefully SCOI will have a buy two get one free special going on, hahaha! I might as well just move to California now. I feel like I've lived here half of the year already anyway!

In case you guys aren't familiar with what a labram is, here is a diagram:

Tears most often happen in athletes that do a lot of pivoting and turning. One of the sports mentioned was ballet. Hmmmmmm.....yeah I know. Almost too obvious, right? There are many other causes and risk factors, but this one made the most sense to me. I think Heather might've hit the nail on the head here, and for that, I am SO grateful! I have my MR arthrogram on Friday before I leave for AZ, so wish me luck! Can't wait to have contrast injected directly into my hip joint! At this point, though, it should be a cakewalk. I've become a human pin cushion. Just so what you have to do, doc. I'm a warrior!

I will keep you guys updated with news as I receive it. Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to read my blog. I hope you guys have a great rest of your week!

Happy Trails!

Stacey
