New Experiences, Lots of Learning, TDOB #3
My second week at Mayo has gone very well! I am now working at the location where I will be most of the time from here on out. It is fast paced and busy, but if I could handle conditions at my previous job, I can handle anything :-).
Besides loving the people I work with and enjoying what I do on a daily basis, it has also become a huge learning experience! I am constantly coming across things I haven’t seen in awhile (i.e.: check dose appropriateness based on indication and creatinine clearance.) I am using those times as opportunities to brush up on my clinical knowledge. Having students in the pharmacy is also helping me to learn quite a bit. They really keep you on your toes!
If I had to say what I am struggling with, it would be diet and exercise. Starting a new job can be stressful no matter how good you are at what you do. There is a whole new system and culture to become familiar with, and it can be a big challenge at first. I love that Mayo has healthy options for lunch, and I almost always choose them. It’s just the grazing throughout the day followed by lack of motivation to do anything but go home and eat dinner after work that is killing me. Plus, I am still very limited on the physical activities I can do. I can’t run, I can’t jump much-even burpees are borderline aggravating for my hammies. I just want to be able to run and train for half marathons again!! It was so easy to stay in shape when running was just a part of what I did! I didn’t even have to think about it! Ugh!!!
My friend Lawna and I are talking about different YouTube videos we can do everyday to stay on track. We also do TruHit, which is high intensity interval training, and is right down the street from where I live! I really love it, but the only days I can do without seriously aggravating my legs are arm days. Even then I still feel a twinge now and again during class. I’ve been told that what your body does, your mind will follow. So it’s just a matter of me getting my ass to TruHit and down to the yoga room here at my complex, and the rest will fall into place. Maybe if I bribe myself with shopping…… :-D. I’ll let you know if that works, lol!
Last thing for today is I’ve been drinking Herbalife meal replacement shakes for breakfast and dinner, and I just came up with a super yummy combination for breakfast!! Mix up a Mint Chocolate shake, add a single serving packet of instant coffee, and you get a Peppermint Mocha shake!! It’s delicious!
I just wanted to give you guys an update of how things are going for me. Let me know if you’ve struggled with what I mentioned above and how you’ve dealt with it. What did you do to overcome the lack of discipline and laziness when you’re exhausted from intense work days?
Have a great Friday, and an awesome weekend!!
Happy Trails,
Stacey
