Busy Busy Bee!! Running all over town!
Hi everyone! It’s been way too long since I have posted! I realized just now that I have read a whole book since writing my last post! I had to find a good one, since I just finished Fifty Shades. I actually Googled “What to read after Fifty Shades of Grey,” and it popped up in the “common Google searches” before I was finished typing it! Too funny, really. This website was intriguing to me, so I took a look. I ended up reading a book called “Bared to You” by Sylvia Day. It was even more detailed than Fifty!! It was really good, though, and has a second book coming out in October that I am looking forward to reading.
Definitely check it out if you are at a loss for what to read next!
These past few weeks have been overwhelming to say the least. I picked up overtime shifts during the last month or so, totaling about 22 extra hours. If you know me well at all, you know that outside of work, I have a lot on my plate, so I tend to not pick up a ton of extra shifts. After the few weeks of extra shifts, I had a week and a half period where every day off I had was consumed with something work related! So my running was being put on the backburner, and work was taking over. Talk about bad moods and burnout! I decided that this past week, being the official start of my NYC marathon training, would be focused more on getting into a routine of getting up early and running or cross training. So here is the rundown of the past week and a half for me:
Friday 6/15: I ran a little over 4 miles with my friends Karen, Karen and Susan. They are SO much fun to hang out with and run with! We braved the early morning AZ heat, and made it to 4 just as it was starting to get too hot to run. Then I worked 9am-9pm.
Sat 6/16: Worked 10am-6pm.
Sun 6/17: Ran with Sue for 5 miles in the brutal sun through Ahwatukee. Sue did great! I, on the other hand, really struggled for the last couple of miles. I made it through, though! Then, worked from 10am-6pm.
Monday: 6/18: My usual busy Monday schedule starting at 6:30am with an early meeting, then work from 8-1:30ish, followed by doctor detailing (more work) and prep for my CPR re-certification (and yet, more work.)
Tuesday 6/19: I ran 3 miles at the crack of dawn right at sunrise through Lakewood, which is a beautiful community in Ahwatukee. As says the name, there are a couple of lakes in the middle of the neighborhood that are beautiful to run by. It goes in a circle, which is about a 2 mile loop. I could only dream of owning a house there someday! Then, I had my CPR re-certification from 2pm-5pm. After that, I did a barbell strength training class at Lifetime Fitness that totally kicked my ass! It was SO good! I still hurt today, and it’s Saturday! That was my last “day off” with something work related for a few weeks, thank God!!
Wednesday 6/20: I did an early morning track workout with TCNYC at 5:30am, where we did a warm up and cool down with a timed mile run in between. I ran mine in 8:51. Not as fast as I might have hoped, but considering it hurt to walk after the class I took the night before, I can’t consider it to be too bad! I felt more like this that morning:
Then, I went to work from 9am-9pm.
Thursday 6/21: I decided to take Thursday off from working out. My body hurt even worse Thursday than it did Wednesday! I worked 9am-9pm. It was one of the longest, toughest days at work I’ve had in a long time!
Friday 6/22: I ran 3 miles on the treadmill at LTF, went to a meeting, had an eye doctor’s appointment, took Ali in for a follow-up visit to the vet, and had dinner with Karen and Susan at Thai Basil. We were having so much fun that we a: forgot we were in a public place, and b:lost track of time. We were there for over two hours! After an amazingly fun dinner with the girls. I went home and crashed to prep for my long run this morning.
Sat 6/23: Up and at ‘em for a 5:30am long run with TCNYC! We ran from Sole Sports to the canal and back for a total of 6 miles. I felt really good today, surprisingly! I was still super sore, so I got a massage at Hand and Stone, came home, and took a 4 hour nap! I was STILL tired when I woke up! Cameron and I had carryout from Ra, and here I am in bed debating on when to wake up and run tomorrow.
Weekends always go SO fast for me! I feel like I need another vacation….
Another exciting tidbit of news is that I registered for the AFC half-marathon in San Diego on August 19th!!
SUPER excited!! I am hoping to PR here, because I feel like my time at Diva’s could’ve been much better if I hadn’t had all of the problems I had during the race. Evidently, the last few miles are hilly, so that will be a good preparation for NYC. As much as I hate hills, they are what they are, and there’s nothing I can do about them except run over them! Anyway, is anyone out there running the AFC half this year?? Leave me a comment below!!
Have a wonderful rest of your weekend!
Happy Trails!
