Spirit of the Marathon and its Sequel
Friday night in the 31 year-old, single pugmom fashion, I watched Spirit of the Marathon while eating a gluten-free ham and pineapple pizza from Dominos with Ali.
Spirit of the Marathon II is coming to theaters for a special showing on Wednesday, and I am going with BTB to see it!
I knew I needed to finish watching the first one before I see the second.
I wasn’t too engaged in the first part of the movie, because all they were talking about was the training and it wasn’t anything too exciting. The one part that hit home with me was one of the featured runners that was going for a BQ (Boston Qualify/Qualifying time) was sidelined due to a knee injury and had to pull out of the race. Sounds all too familiar to me. I just wanted to give him a hug and tell him I completely understand how he feels!
The second part, though, was the actual race, which was the Chicago Marathon and it was SO awesome! I got chills when they panned over the starting line and showed the masses of people behind it that seemed like it went on forever! SO amazing! Every single person on that street at that moment was feeling the same emotions, and anxiety and anticipation. I love that running brings so many people together.
If you are a runner, or are married to/dating a runner, or your sister is a runner, or your daughter is a runner, you need to watch this movie (it’s on Netflix, BTW.) It made me even more excited to get back in my running shoes and be healthy enough to start training again.
I haven’t mentioned this on here yet, so here goes:
My realistic goal for my first full marathon is The Derby Festival Full Marathon in April of 2014. I enjoyed the half this year so much, that I think it is absolutely perfect for my first 26.2!! It is just over 10 months from now, and I am optimistic that at the rate my hammies are healing, I should be able to hopefully start training by the end of this year. There is a good chance I’ll be able to start training for half marathons before that, but my real goal is 4/14. That gives me ample time to get healthy and train properly.
After my first 26.2, if I am healthy, Susan is going to start having me work on my speed. My eventual goal is to BQ. I am doing this the right way now, and I know what to look for if I think my health is taking a turn for the worst again. Hopefully I will never let an injury get to this point in the future.
I am super excited about this Wednesday and the movie! I miss my BTB’ers SO much because I haven’t been running and seeing them at track or at Saturday morning long runs. It’s going to be great to see everyone.
I have two meetings tomorrow morning, so I am getting to bed now. I hope everyone has a great and safe weekend!
Happy Trails!
