Surgery Post-Op Update

My surgery was yesterday, and it went very well. It was a completely different surgery than the last two, though, so I really wasn't sure what to expect post-op. I definitely woke up in more pain this time. The nurses at COSI were fabulous again, so they made sure to keep me comfortable. Never in my life have saltines and ginger ale tasted so good!

Dr. Guanche explained to me what procedures he would be doing in the surgery. I actually had more than just a labral tear. I also had cam and pincer lesions. Here is a picture that shows what these are versus a normal hip joint:

So after suturing the torn labrum back onto the bone where it belongs, he basically shaves down bone in the red areas to make it look like the top left picture. These lesions can cause impingements, pain, and tears in connective tissue such as the labrum. Here and here are really good explanations of the injuries and their corresponding corrective surgeries. The second link is from my doctor, Dr. Carlos Guanche's, website. There are also videos of the procedure if you are the curious and adventurous type like me ;-).

I'm keeping this short, because I'm tired and want to go to bed. I am really hoping this is the final surgery, and the last step in pushing me toward recovery. My hip isn't popping anymore. So that's a great sign! Thanks so much for stopping by, and I'll talk to you guys soon.

Happy Trails,

Stacey
